Magical Mangawhai
We spent the second week of the school holidays at Mangawhai, a small coastal village an hour and a half north of here. It was surprisingly quiet and we decided that the Rugby World Cup excitement must have influenced people to stay in Auckland. It is always refreshing to walk/run/splash/cavort on the beach or kayak in the estuary and I enjoy the quiet. I have now settled on a title of my novel. It will be called 2014 Year of the Horse.

Curl up with a book
One of the simple pleasures of life is finding a warm quiet spot, curling up with a good book and forgetting the world for several hours. I want to write the sort of books that readers can't put down. Of course this is not easy and so I rewrite and rewrite but I fancy that with each rewrite it gets better and I learn something.
At the weekend I took this snap. One of the kids had been reading and was called away leaving his book open. He returned to find the cat had taken his place and seemed engrossed in his book.

Beginnings
Every journey begins with the first step. This twenty-first century journey, my journey starts with words. There are millions of words and trillions of word combinations and yet every person has a unique word footprint which makes their writing different. I look forward to sharing with you my combination of words, words joined together in sentences, then paragraphs and finally chapters. This becomes the end of one journey and the start of another.
